“Beautiful Atmosphere”
Brian and I met eight years ago when he was catering one of my family’s parties. He was chatting with my grandma when she called me to come sit with her. He left his number for me and we went on our first date to the High Line in New York City just a few days later. We dated for six years and he proposed on the anniversary of the day we met at our first date spot. He invited our friends and family to surprise me and come celebrate!
We found everything we wanted for our wedding venue at The Westin Governor Morris. It accommodated our large families, had delicious food, a beautiful atmosphere, and a staff willing to go above and beyond. It is the perfect wedding venue! Julie Olsen, the senior catering manager, and her team organized everything from start to finish, ensuring our guests had the best time. We actually chose The Westin just three months before our date, because we had to change venues at the last minute. They accommodated us and made the transition go smoother than we could’ve ever imagined.
Our ceremony was in my childhood church, Saint Luke Parish in Long Valley, NJ. They provided beautiful music and having our family and friends there to support us and celebrate meant the world. After we went to Jardin de Buis to take photos, where we were able to take advantage of the beautiful greenhouse and grounds. We got amazing family portraits and photos of the two of us that really captured our rustic theme.
Everything at our cocktail hour was amazing! The Westin Governor Morris was even able to provide a suckling pig in honor of the day we first met. Our guests raved about the plethora of delicious options at the cocktail hour. We chose hors d’oeuvres such as tuna poke wasabi on a wonton crisp, scallops wrapped in bacon, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, and attendant serving stations like “The Jersey Shore,” which had flatbreads, sliders, and mini hot dogs.
Particular favorites were the raw bar and the carving station with steamship beef. Brian and I follow gluten-free diets and Julie and the chef at The Westin were able to provide multiple options for us to choose from.
The flowers, accents, and lighting transformed the ballroom into a rustic chic theme. Julie Olsen worked wonderfully with our wedding planner and our florist to make our vision a reality. We had slate blue tablecloths, candles, and a mix of silver and wooden chargers to create the rustic vibe we were looking for in The Westin’s stunning ballroom. Greenery and fairy lights around the room complemented our centerpieces, which were elegant cream colored flowers with greenery and succulents, accented by hints of blush. Our guests also had such a fun time with the photo booth The Westin was able to organize for us!
For dinner, we had a delicious seasonal watercress and radicchio salad with a choice of peppercorn-crusted chateaubriand with sautéed spinach and an amazing celery root purée or grilled Faroe Island salmon with sun-dried tomato chutney and creamy polenta to follow. Calandra’s Bakery created a simple three-tier cake for us to decorate with real flowers. We have followed our band for over seven years and Brian was ecstatic to have them play at the wedding. They are consummate performers and professionals playing in any setting!
We want to thank our family, friends, vendors, everyone at The Westin Governor Morris, and Warren Country Events for all their hard work to help make our day so special!
