John and I were high school sweethearts. We went to elementary school together and sat next to each other in first grade. After knowing him almost my whole life, we began dating on New Year’s Eve in our senior year of high school. Little did we know, exactly 10 years later, on New Year’s, we’d be saying I do!
John’s proposal was perfect. He booked a private tour of one of our favorite wineries, Beneduce Vineyards. As we strolled through the middle of the vineyard, John bent to one knee and asked me to be his wife. We couldn’t wait to begin planning!

John’s father is a judge, and he’s married all three of John’s siblings, so we were delighted it was our turn to ask him to officiate our ceremony. It was incredibly meaningful. We also had our golden poodle, Frankie, dressed in a tuxedo, and had him drive down the aisle in a toy Lamborghini. He stole the show, and was even featured later on The Today Show.
For our ballroom décor, we chose three different centerpieces. Our sweetheart table was enhanced by a big, beautiful flower arch, adorned with hanging candles and lanterns. We lined the fireplace with candles and gave the whole room a warm, romantic glow. As a twist on traditional escort cards, we had stick stirrers made with our guests’ names and respective table numbers, and placed them in champagne glasses.
For dinner, we selected the estate signature salad as a first course and a duet entrée of shrimp à la park and chateaubriand. We also had a chicken saltimbocca and a vegetarian eggplant tower available upon request. For dessert, we had a Viennese table with an array of sweets and decadent desserts.
The most notable surprise for us was our best man’s speech. It turned into a flash mob! Our friends, family, and even parents were all in on it. They stood up and started doing the same dance in unison. We were blown away knowing how much practice and thought must have gone into pulling that off! During our first dance, a live painter captured the moment for us, and we’re so glad we have something made in the moment to remember our wedding.
