“Superior Quality”
Anthony and I met in the Hamptons. My friend was going to a Memorial Day party and told me there was a guy there, Anthony, who she knew I would hit it off with. I sent him a Facebook friend request and he messaged me that night asking if I was coming to the party. When my friend and I got there, I met Anthony and we spent all night talking. After I went back home to Westchester, he invited me for a date in White Plains. He told me then that the next girl he dated would be the girl he married, and it turns out, he was right!
After two and a half years of dating we moved in together. Friends started speculating when he would propose, but I knew that neither of us wanted anything showy, and we’d want it to be a moment to share alone. One night after a normal day at work and a visit to Anthony’s parents’ house we came home, and I saw he left a bunch of dirty clothes on the bed. I said, “Why did you do that?” He responded, “Well, till death do us part!” He held up the ring and asked if I’d marry him. I thought I was dreaming for a second! I was so happy to have such an intimate, relaxed engagement.
We had been to The Surf Club on the Sound for other weddings and knew how beautiful it is, how nice the people are, and how delicious the food is! We wanted a big wedding and it was great to have a venue large enough to accommodate us while maintaining superior quality. As you drive up, there is a beautiful fountain, perfect for photos at sunset. The baby grand piano by the double staircase is a gorgeous indoor backdrop. Rick DiLeo, the banquet manager, is a great guy and we had complete faith that he would ensure everything ran perfectly. Everyone tells you, “Something always goes wrong,” but even in hindsight, nothing went wrong from start to finish!
We used the same photographer both our parents used for their wedding. I love seeing the video of them getting ready, because it feels like we were with them the whole day. We were thrilled we would be able to have the same memories. We had our ceremony at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and our family priest, who was in Italy, flew in to officiate alongside the priest who performed Anthony’s baptism and communion. Our cocktail hour was outside on the beach. Our guests still talk of how beautiful it was and all the food we had: a sushi bar, a raw seafood bar, a carving station, a prosciutto and fresh mozzarella station, and Mexican, Italian, and Spanish cuisines. Anthony and I tried everything, and it was all outstanding.
We lined the entrance hallways with mirrors and flowers. We had three different centerpieces. The low ones were lanterns with huge bundles of white roses, orchids, and greens entwined around them. The taller centerpieces had the same flowers, propped up by a glass vase filled with orchids. The third style was a greenery wreath surrounded by candles. It was classy, elegant, and romantic.
Our guests sat down to a Mediterranean sampler, followed by pappardelle con filetto. For an entrée, guests chose prime rib au jus, chicken en croute, miso-glazed salmon, and eggplant parmesan. The Surf Club was more than accommodating about customizing gluten-free dishes and were happy to give Anthony a tomahawk steak as his dinner. Our cake was vanilla with Nutella filling! Everything was unique, and there was something for every taste.
Everyone also loved the outside experience, where we had a to-go station with gelato, churros, and a chocolate fountain, all on top of a Venetian hour. Our DJ hooked up to the lighting and sound system at The Surf Club. We had lights everywhere, and we didn’t need to have giant speakers on our dance floor. The huge photo booth we chose was perfect for group pictures. We’ve never seen so many people having fun in one place!
We’d like to thank Rick, and everyone else at The Surf Club, for your attention to detail and positive energy. It was amazing to work with all of you to create this special day for us. Thank you to our photographer, florist, and DJ for surpassing all our expectations. Thank you to our friends and family for being there to celebrate with me and Anthony and for making our wedding the best day of our lives!
