“Idyllic Setting”
Joey and I met the summer I moved to Queens from upstate NY. We were at a mutual friend’s party in Manhattan and we ended up spending the entire night talking and dancing into the early morning. The next weekend, Joey took me out on the first of many dates.
Two years later we were going for Sunday brunch at a new spot he found. It was a sunny day in November as we walked through the Brooklyn Bridge Park. We approached a beautiful garden that was empty other than a photographer. I saw an empty bench with a giant bouquet of flowers and a white envelope with my name written on it. I turned and saw Joey on one knee, and realized the photographer was there to capture our engagement!
Being from upstate, I wanted a venue that felt outdoorsy, but we did not want to sacrifice on class. The Roundhouse has the rustic, industrial-modern feel we were looking for and our wedding could be indoors and outdoors. We loved the gorgeous waterfall view, and our coordinator, as well as the rest of the Roundhouse staff, was incredible to work with. Many of the vendors we chose were recommended by Roundhouse and we could not be more thrilled with how the weekend came together. We loved that we could have a wedding weekend and our guests could stay on-site and be conveniently close to the brunch the next morning.
Our officiant worked with us to create a ceremony that felt totally us. We created a time capsule during the ceremony that we plan to open on our first anniversary. Both our fathers delivered readings and the entire event was idyllic. We are huge foodies and made sure our guests had many delicious options. Our cocktail hour featured delectable passed hors d’oeuvres and multiple stations. Some favorites were the shellfish station, the shrimp tostada with chipotle mayo, and the signature drinks, which were amazing. We had an elderflower Collins and a dark & stormy.
Our reception centerpieces were a combination of tall and short floral arrangements with various sizes of candles to add texture and visual interest. We put a flower or a sprig at each menu to add a little something to the place settings. Our freshly picked from-the-garden vibe was executed perfectly. We used the lighting to create a warm and inviting space by hanging a hand-made wooden chandelier and using fairy lights as accents throughout the room and outside patio.
Our dinner started with a delicious seasonal salad followed by a midcourse of rigatoni with short rib ragout. For an entrée, our guests had the option of a steakhouse style grass-fed filet, poached sea bass, or brick chicken with seasonal risotto. Dessert was a four-tier buttercream cake! Our DJ had us complete a comprehensive list of music we wanted to hear and did not want to hear. He used this to give us exactly what we wanted while bringing all the guests to their feet the whole night. He helped my father and Joey put together a slideshow that was played during our father-daughter dance that was such a sweet surprise.
Joey and I are so grateful for the wonderful staff at The Roundhouse. From the planning process to day-of execution, we could not be more thrilled with how our wedding turned out. Thank you to all our friends and family for making our wedding day so special and for celebrating the love we’ll share forever!
