“Immaculate Gardens”
Joey: We met while in college at Princeton. We bonded over the Yankees and were good friends for about four years before we started dating. Naturally, our first date was to go to a Yankees playoff game. It was an exciting game and a fantastic start to the relationship. Now, we live in New York and I’m a lawyer and he is a medical student.
Ben: I rented out the third floor of The Spotted Pig, our favorite restaurant. I gave my name when we arrived and the hostess led us upstairs, which I thought might tip Joey off because they don’t take reservations. The whole room was cleared except for a single table in the middle of the room set for two, with flowers.
Joey: He immediately proposed, and the whole moment was a happy blur. We had a lovely dinner, in private, before Ben took me around the corner to the surprise engagement party with all our friends!
Ben: Brooklyn Botanic Garden was a blissfully easy decision. The combination of immaculate gardens and a very unique room for our reception was irresistible for us. The catering sales manager was fantastic and helped us pick an on-site location for our ceremony. She guided us through the day and worked through every logistical detail. Everyone was very responsive to our questions and concerns and it was great customizing the menu to have exactly what we wanted for food.
Joey: Our ceremony was outside, in the garden, under the blooming magnolia trees. It could not have felt more perfect.
Ben: Our cocktail hour was also outside, set up on the lily pool terrace between the Palm House and the gardens and ponds. The lights from the Palm House and the street lamps that are set along the walkway gave the night a romantic glow. We had passed hors d’oeuvres and the guests really loved the antipasto and sushi action stations. They were both huge hits!
Joey: We could feel the night around us in the glass-walled Palm House for our reception. We loved the unique setting and the luminescent chandelier. We filled our tables with flowers and had custom menus for each place setting. We served a salad and a crab cake appetizer, and our guests chose between a short rib and filet duo, pan-seared diver scallops, and free-range chicken. We had a vanilla with strawberry mousse-filled wedding cake, which was made by Patina Events at Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Ben: The room has a large dance floor in the center and all our guests were able to dance together the entire evening. Our band made the event everything it could be! We continue to get compliments to this day on the range of music and the energy they brought to the night.
Joey & Ben: We would love to thank all the people who helped us put our day together. It was exceptional, and we will never forget the time spent or the overwhelming amount of joy we felt. We want to thank Victoria and the rest of the Patina Events team at Brooklyn Botanic Garden for making us feel catered to. To our guests, it wouldn’t have been such a special night without you! Thank you everyone for making our wedding spectacular!
