The Wedding of Aimeé & Olubunmi ...

Why We Chose Our Venue ...

Aimeé & Olubunmi's Wedding at The Garrison“We saw other venues and nixed a bunch through online search, but The Garrison had the rustic chic atmosphere we wanted and the views of the valley that reflected us. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was sophisticated, and Bridget Bell, the special events manager, was so helpful. The Garrison checked all our boxes. The whole process was seamless. Bridget and Karina Deschamps, the bridal attendant, were meticulous and professional. We felt we could trust them with the most important day of our lives.

“We loved the beautiful garden area with the mountain views for our ceremony, and that our guests could attend all the day’s events in one place. Doors from the garden led into the cocktail hour area and doors from the cocktail hour area led into the reception, which provided a natural flow to the day. We had the undivided attention of the staff and the beautiful venue was ours for the day.”

“Rustic Chic Atmosphere”

Olubunmi: Aimeé and I always say our love is circular because we met twice. We went on a first date, and for some reason fell out of touch. Four years later we met again and went on a second first date, this time embarking on a relationship that would lead to marriage!

Aimeé: Four years later we got engaged. We went to the area of our second first date and spent an evening reliving experiences that reflected our relationship. After dinner, we walked along the pier to where we could watch the water, and he popped the question! We originally thought a destination wedding with our families and friends would be a lot of fun, but about four or five months into planning, we started looking at local venues. When we saw the Garrison, we knew it was the venue for us.

Olubunmi: We saw other venues and nixed a bunch through online search before that, but The Garrison had the rustic chic atmosphere that she wanted and gave me the views of the valley that I felt reflected us, being from Westchester.

Aimeé: We loved the beautiful garden area with the mountain views for our ceremony, and that our guests could attend all the day’s events in one place. Doors from the garden led into the cocktail hour area, and doors from the cocktail hour area led into the reception, which provided a natural flow to the day. The Garrison hosts one event at a time, which was key for both of us. We had the undivided attention of the staff and the beautiful venue was ours for the day.

Olubunmi: Our vision for an outdoor ceremony was almost foiled by snow, but moments before our ceremony began the snow stopped. It all felt surreal, and this set the tone for the remainder of the day. The sunset provided a perfect backdrop for our cocktail hour and could be enjoyed through the floor-to-ceiling windows. We wanted to keep the food light but exciting. We had spicy tuna tartare, assorted sushi rolls, chorizo empanadas, and grilled flat bread as our passed hors d’oeuvres, plus a medley of Jamaican food for our station. We are a multicultural family and our food reflected that.

Aimeé: The reception was in the ballroom, which is beautiful on its own. Our color scheme had violets, purples, pinks, and reds, as well as bistro lighting which made for a romantic ambiance. We had high centerpieces with branches fanning out, candles hanging from the ends, and little ball berries on the branches. The low centerpieces were little bird cages and lanterns surrounded by candles and flowers. From the room you can see views of the Hudson River and Valley and we felt we succeeded in bringing the outside in.

Olubunmi: For food we had a baby kale salad as an appetizer, then offered boneless short ribs of beef and veal or diver sea scallops with apple cider gastrique as an entrée. We used a bakery The Garrison suggested and had an amazing strawberry mocha white cake. We had two DJs at our wedding, so that our friend could guest DJ but still enjoy the party. The two played off each other well and no one, not even our grandmothers, wanted to leave the dance floor! There was an outdoor firepit with heaters, so you could also sit around and look out at the view. We utilized the firepit towards the end of the night for s’mores, and it was the perfect ending to an already amazing event. Our mini cider donut favors, made by Vera’s Marketplace, were a huge hit.

Aimeé: We can’t say enough how pleased we are that we chose The Garrison. We would like to thank Bridget and everyone involved in making our wedding day everything we envisioned. We’d also like to thank our vendors and our florist, because without those details the wedding would not have been the same. To Olubunmi’s cousin, thank you for officiating our wedding, which gave our ceremony a unique and personal touch. Finally, thank you to all our guests who helped us have the night of our lives!
