Historic Charm
DJ and I unknowingly lived within minutes of each other for years (we grew up in cities that border each other and we both lived in New Brunswick after college), yet it took an online dating app for our paths to finally cross. After graduating, I now work in sales and DJ works in IT operations. During Christmastime two years later, DJ took me back to Princeton for a romantic dinner at Blue Point Grill (one of our favorite spots) and then we walked around Palmer Square enjoying the holiday décor. During our walk, DJ stopped to get down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!
Anticipating about 100 guests, we wanted a rustic venue with an intimate feel and amazing food. We fell in love with The Olde Mill Inn’s historic charm and stunning grounds and the incredible food from their restaurant, The Grain House. After receiving resounding approval from my mother and maid of honor, we booked our wedding there. We mainly worked with Kate Rooney, maître d’, to plan our wedding. Kate and every person we talked to was extremely helpful and friendly. Everyone at the venue clearly has a passion for what they do.
We were married in front of the beautiful gazebo, which sits riverside and is surrounded by trees and flowers. The entire space was perfect for our spring decorations. The rustic grounds and charming interior spaces created several photo opportunities.
Cocktail hour was held in The Grain House. The food was to die for. White-gloved butlers passed various hors d’oeuvres including items like French onion soup boule and mini chicken and waffles with maple drizzle. We had various attended food stations. The Metropolitan potato bar and the mac and cheese bar, both served with all the toppings you could imagine, were a big hit.
Our reception had whimsical, romantic décor with amber lighting. Candlelight illuminated each table’s gold centerpieces, which were filled with pink and neutral flowers with lots of greenery. The reception space is different from a traditional ballroom because the dance floor is separated from the seating area by a small step down. This set up leaves lots of room for dancing. Our DJ exceeded our expectations and created an incredible party. He also provided an interactive touch screen “Selfie Mirror,” which our guests loved.
Dinner began with a mixed greens salad in sherry vinaigrette and a raspberry sorbet intermezzo. For the main course, guests could select from honey miso-glazed salmon, herb roasted French chicken breast, filet of beef with cabernet demi-glace, or three cheese cannelloni. For dessert, slices of our wedding cake and mini Italian pastry platters were served to each table. We also added an ice cream cookie sandwich bar! I cannot say enough about the delicious food!
The venue was perfect, but what made everything truly magical was everyone we worked with. Kate and every single person at The Olde Mill and Grain House was professional and helpful. All of our vendors went above and beyond to create our perfect day. Thanks to our friends and family and amazing vendors, DJ and I could not have asked for a better celebration of our love.
