It was the summer before our senior year of high school, and I met Vinny at my friend Lauren’s birthday party in the city. We sang karaoke and later took the train home together. Now, I am a kindergarten teacher and Vinny is a police officer. After about 10 years together, Vinny coordinated with my family to plan the perfect proposal. My aunt invited us and my family to go on a hike for my cousin’s last Boy Scout badge before his Eagle ceremony.Vinny told me he had to work that day, so my parents, my brother, and I went. We hiked up Turkey Mountain and when we reached the top, the rest of my family, Vinny’s family, and a bunch of our friends were waiting there holding a sign that said, “Amanda, will you marry me?” Then Vinny got down on one knee and proposed! After taking many pictures, we all celebrated at one of my favorite brunch spots nearby.

I had heard amazing things about The Surf Club, so we booked an appointment to visit the venue. The Surf Club is just beautiful, and I adored the ballroom’s big dance floor and sparkling chandeliers. Another big seller for me was the wedding suite with elegant couches and personal bathroom for our whole bridal party.I can be very particular when it comes to planning, but working with Rick DiLeo, banquet manager, and The Surf Club team was great. Rick made us feel special and ensured we got everything we wanted. Everyone was so helpful, accessible, and knowledgeable. On the night of our wedding, Antonio, our maître d’, and Meril, the bridal attendant, made sure we were happy and that everything ran smoothly.

We were married at a beautiful church in Bronxville with tall cathedral ceilings and a long aisle. After our full mass, we headed to The Surf Club on the Sound for cocktail hour. We extended cocktail hour so we could take pictures and still make it to the end. Our guests raved about the spread of food, the entertainment, and our signature drinks. To enjoy the summer day, we set up both inside the Penthouse Veranda and outside on the air-conditioned terrace. We had passed hors d’oeuvres such as veggie egg rolls, and mini cheeseburger sliders plus food stations like Italian and Mexican stations. My dad loves shrimp cocktail, so Rick helped us customize a whole shrimp cocktail station just for him, displayed on a dove ice sculpture. When guests entered the reception, they could write a piece of advice in the message in a bottle display. (We plan to read them on our one-year anniversary!) Guests could find their seats on our large mirrored chart. Our tables were decorated with gold-framed table numbers, tall centerpieces filled with white hydrangeas and roses, and candles. Our sweetheart table was at the front of the dance floor, propped up on a small step above our guests. The Surf Club on the Sound provided a special decorative tablecloth and two beautiful white satin chairs. The night was filled with great music and fun games.

Our MC hosted a shoe game, where Vinny and I answered questions back to back, which really helped our guests get to know us as a couple. We got so many compliments on the delicious food. Dinner started with a poached pear salad and penne alla vodka. For the main course, guests had an option of filet mignon, miso-glazed salmon, the customized chicken alla Amanda, or vegetarian lasagna. As a parting dessert to all our guests, The Surf Club on the Sound offered churros and chocolate chip cookies. We are so incredibly thankful for our amazing experience with The Surf Club on the Sound. Thank you to Rick and the whole staff for making our day perfect. Thank you to all our vendors for their incredible talent. And last but not least, thank you to our friends and family for their love and for celebrating with us.
