“You want to be sure the orchestra you hire is fully capable of running a catered affair and coordinating with the venue and all your service providers,” says Jason DellaValle of Jason Craig Entertainment. “You’re not looking for just a great band with great music — but a band that knows how to run your party.”

That means making sure they have a competent leader and spokesperson who can run your party and coordinate your music with the serving of your dinner courses and the celebration itself.

“There is a craft involved in coordinating the music for a party and accommodating the tremendous versatility a wedding demands,” says Jason. “Since the crowd spans two to three generations, the band must handle several genres of music to keep them on the dance floor, which is the the key to a successful party.

“It’s not just the menu or the venue, it’s the music that makes a great party.”

They recently played a wedding with a Disney theme. “The bride and groom entered to an overture of Disney music. Fireworks sparkled in the flowers when the lights went out, while we were playing the Disney overture. It was great.”

They were at the Westmont County Club, with spotlights that revolve on the dance floor. “So while the bride and groom were dancing, the spotlight followed them. It reminded me of a Cinderella fairy tale, they both looked wonderful.”

Jason started playing 25 years ago. “There is a lot of experience and knowledge to gain. Learning to read a crowd is like being a quarterback on a football team. Everything you call is important and must be put in its proper place.”

Jason has collected 10 pieces in the band. “They are the best, most versatile in all types of music. For example, we have five lead vocalists, so we can cover every genre as completely as possible.

“We have a female vocalist who is authentic in every interpretation, from Etta James to Beyoncé. I sing all the Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Josh Groban, and Andrea Bocelli songs, plus all the ballads of the 40’s and 50’s. Then we have a vocalist who covers the new Nelly, Usher, and Babyface music.”
They also have a rock singer who can sing Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, and all the rock and roll people want to hear.

“Our four-piece horn section, a trombone, a sax, and two trumpets, allows us to play big band numbers with the sound of a big orchestra.

“All those ingredients are packed with energy and showmanship. Our vocalists have a tremendous amount of audience rapport. Visually the band is exciting for people. Even those not dancing can enjoy the entertainment and the music.

“The best part is sharing one of the happiest days of their lives with people.”
