Real Wedding: Bretton Woods
Grad School Sweethearts

"We were introduced by our mutual friend, Jennifer, outside of Columbia University School of Social Work, where we attended graduate school. (Now Taylor works in family therapy and I work in case management for a senior care center in New York City.) We felt an immediate connection with one another, but it wasn't until the next semester that we began hanging out. After lunch with a group of friends and a night out on the town, Taylor called and asked me to dinner.

"Our first date was at a restaurant called Rain. After dinner we shared an hour-long walk filled with peace and laughter. We discovered a common passion for life, music, spirituality, and love.
Two weeks into dating, Taylor met my large Italian family and immediately fell in love with my mother’s meatballs, while I fell in love with his mother’s salads.

"In October I planned a surprise 30th birthday party for him. There were 70 of our closest friends and relatives coming to the party. After opening an array of gifts, Taylor gave a speech thanking me for the surprise and explaining how much he loved me. He then looked at me and said, 'However, the real surprise is on you.' Taylor got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

"I’m from New Jersey and Taylor is from North Carolina. We decided to have our reception at a place that brought our northern and southern families together. Joe Gatti and Joe Zimmerman, the catering managers at Bretton Woods, were very accommodating to our family members who flew in from all over. They offered transportation to Bretton Woods from the hotels where they were staying, and before our ceremony they provided me with a luxurious bridal suite with refreshments, food, and attendants ready to fulfill any request we had.

"Our cocktail hour was held in The Mansion and the reception was in The Colonial Ballroom. During our cocktail hour we had several stations for meat carving, an Asian wok, and a Mediterranean and crépe station. The food was never-ending and the diverse menu pleased all our guests.

"For dinner our guests enjoyed a fresh fruit medley, five leaf salad with an assortment of dressings, chicken saltimbocca, red snapper with a créme sauce, chateaubriand with steamed asparagus and carrots, and twice-baked potatoes.

"For dessert, our favorites were the vanilla and French butter créme cake, Italian pastries, and chocolate-dipped strawberries.

"We cannot say enough about the beauty and comfort we and our guests felt on our wedding day. Bretton Woods and their attentive staff far exceeded our expectations. It truly was a day to be remembered and a beautiful way to begin our life together."
