CREATING YOUR REGISTRY

Your Personal Tastes | Mix & Match | Registering with Fortunoff | Locations

To create your wedding registry, Tara Estrada, bridal business manager for the Fortunoff Wedding & Gift Registry, encourages you to do a little soul-searching. “How would you define both your styles?” she asks. “Are you a traditionalist, or more of a modern bride? Do you surround yourself with romantic, frilly décor, or is your home filled with simple, clean shapes and monochromatic colors?

“Knowing your personal style helps you determine how to register and what items to include in your registry.”

Look at your lifestyle and how you plan to entertain. See what items you already own and what items need to be replaced. “Ask your married family members and friends what they registered for, and which items they can’t live without,” says Tara. “Visit our extensive website and look at what’s available.”

She encourages you to take notes on the items you like and make final decisions when you see the products in person at the store. “Ask one of our consultants for advice if you’re not sure about what you need.

“Hitting the stores as a couple is essential in defining your style,” says Tara. “After all, the gifts are for both of you. To decide what you need, take an inventory of what you already have and see where the gaps are. Talk about the style of home you both like.

“You also can split up the final decisions, perhaps alternating items. Maybe the one who is the ‘entertainment center master’ gets to make final decisions on electronics, while the ‘master chef’ between you gets to choose the bulk of the kitchen items.”

Your Personal Tastes
“If you’re a ‘Trendy Jet Set Bride,’ Then maybe you’re a Kate Spade or Vera Wang woman,” says Tara. “You could mix and match Kate Spade's Pebble Point fine china with June Lane Accent Plates to add more flair to your table. Add Vera Wang’s Classic Stemware to complete the look.”

If you’re the outdoorsy kind, then perhaps Waterford’s new Lavaliere, which has an equestrian look, is more for you.

“The possibilities are endless,” says Tara. “There are no rules to follow. Mixing and matching is the mantra of the day. Not only will you have fun, but you’ll tap into an inner creativity that will enliven your dinner table.

“Use timeless pieces, from classics like Waterford’s Essence Stemware, and add instant Old Hollywood glamour to your evenings. Use a champagne saucer instead of a flute. Bring texture to your table by adding raw silk table linens along with a beautiful Michael Aram centerpiece from our Hollowware collection.”

Do you like last-minute road trips, one-pot meals that are somehow to die for, and date nights in? Then you probably love to entertain without a lot of pretense or labored preparation. “As long as there’s enough food and drink, you trust the rest will fall into place. That relaxed vibe rubs off on your guests, who all feel comfortable in your nest.

“Make your life even cozier by registering for multi-purpose, sure-to-be-used pieces like the Kitchen Aid Artisan Mixer or the Tassimo Coffee Maker.”

Mix & Match
You may have items that are part of a family heirloom, which you would like to keep

as part of your new table top china. “The best way to maintain the ‘Timeless’ look of the piece is by adding an accent plate or a decorative charger with each setting,” says Tara.

“Mix it up with different items from a variety of vendors, and you’ll make each meal unique and memorable. A nice touch to your décor would be to place your first anniversary picture in our Swarovski Starlet Frame.”

Registering for both a formal and a casual china will ensure you have all your different entertaining nights covered.

“It also gives your guests more of a variety of items to choose from for your gift. If you don’t typically want to select fine china, but want the elegance of fine china, you could always go for Golden Garden by Villeroy & Boch. You can continue the influence of the pattern by adding our Ricci Flatware to complete your Asian-inspired setting.

“This will bring instant pizzazz to your table. You also can bring romanticism to your table by adding beautiful Orrefors Votives.”

If you’re looking for more of a contemporary edge, choose Fortunoff’s new Thomas O’Brien collection by Reed and Barton. The collection also has complementing stemware and flatware to ease the decision-making process.

For a cocktail evening, Tara suggests incorporating their stylish selections of barware by Miller Rogaska, Schott Zwiesel, and Riedel.

“Plan for your future life and entertaining needs as a couple,” she says. “Though now you may only be hosting dinner parties for six people in your one-bedroom apartment, think about your future home as well.

“We recommend registering for a service of 12 to 16 for your china, and think about the Kitchen Aid artisan stand mixer, the most versatile appliance you can get. You’ll use it when you host your first holiday family meal.”

Registering with Fortunoff
“When you’re ready to register, there’s no need to make an appointment. Just walk into any of our locations and sit down with a bridal consultant who will go through the registry process with you.”

You get a scanner to start adding to your wish list. “We don’t recommend trying to complete your entire registry in one day. Give yourself at least three visits to establish a good foundation of dinnerware, stemware, and flatware — once that’s complete, everything else is a breeze.”

Fortunoff has many promotions that add to the ease of creating your registry. “The Fortunoff Wedding Dream Club credit card earns you points toward valuable reward certificates,” says Tara. “You’ll also add more points as your guests purchase gifts from your registry.”

Once you register at Fortunoff, you get a 10 percent savings off the purchase of your wedding bands. “We also give you 10 percent off the purchase of anything remaining on your registry for up to six months after your wedding, and you’ll also save 10 percent when you purchase your attendants’ gifts and wedding guest favors.”

Fortunoff also has what Tara describes as “the easiest-to-navigate bridal registry on the web,” which your guests can use to make a purchase and ship from anywhere in the USA.

“At our free Bridal Events you can get wedding planning tips and fashion trends, meet registry experts, and customize your big day.

“Since we opened our doors in 1922 we’ve helped couples plan their new life together. Now we have one of the largest bridal registries in the world, but we still maintain the values of the small family store where we began.”

Brides get additional entertaining and decorating tips at Fortunoff’s “Girl’s Night Out Parties” (the schedule is posted on their site) where you’ll also be able to meet with their new spokesperson, Mindy Weiss, the Hollywood wedding and event planner.

“Bring your bridesmaids along for a fun-filled girls night out, and leave with our extravagant goody bag, for the bride only. Then, over appetizers and cocktails, you can receive expert advise from industry specialists.”
